Frequently Asked Questions

What is OMM?

Through Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM), Doctors of Osteopathy (DOs) use their hands to recognize illness and injury and encourage the body’s natural self-healing process. OMM includes techniques that apply gentle pressure to manipulate your muscles and joints. It helps relieve pain and can reduce the duration and frequency of symptoms. When appropriate, OMM can enhance the effectiveness of, and even replace the need for medications and surgery.

Do you take insurance?

At Still Point Osteopathic Care, we aren’t contracted with any insurance provider. The problem we’ve found is that we provide a highly specialized service, and you may need and benefit from that service, but there’s a mysterious black box owned by insurance companies between us that controls how much it costs you and how much we get paid, and neither of us gets to know how much that is until weeks or months later. As a bonus, they have been dictating more and more about what kind of care you can receive.

In insurance based clinics, we’ve seen patients pay their copay and then get billed $400-800 dollars per visit as a surprise bill months later. That doesn’t seem great for anybody, and we can only imagine how upset you would be with us to get that in the mail. Instead, we charge a reasonable flat rate, spend the time it takes to understand your problem and do something about it, and can give you the paperwork you need to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. That means you know the worst case of how much this could cost up front, instead of getting bills for up to several times what we charge. And by knowing what we will get paid, we can maximize time with you as a patient, rather than try to cram as many visits into a day as possible and hope insurance pays us for some of them. If we can find a better way to do it, we will, but for now we think this is the best way to provide excellent care for our patients.

What is the cost of each appointment?

New Patient Appointments (45 minutes) - $245

Follow-Up Appointments (20 minutes) - $195

The cost for procedures like Trigger point, PRP, Prolotherapy can be discussed if it is a good fit for you, and after a New Patient appointment.

We accept payment at the end of each appointment, and can take HSA/FSA funds. We also can give you a Superbill that you can submit to insurance after each appointment.

What should I expect at each appointment?

During your New Patient appointment, you can expect to spend 45 minutes with your physician in a quiet and comfortable environment. We believe that listening to your story and understanding your unique situation is crucial in delivering personalized care. By taking the time to listen, we gain a deeper understanding of your health history, lifestyle factors, and any current symptoms you may be experiencing.

After listening to your story, your physician will perform a thorough physical exam. This exam allows us to identify any injuries or restricted areas in your body that may be contributing to your discomfort or hindering your overall function. By addressing these underlying issues, we can develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. OMM physicians utilize a variety of osteopathic techniques, including gentle adjustments and manipulations to restore balance, alleviate pain, and improve mobility. These hands-on treatments are aimed at helping your body heal naturally and promoting overall well-being.

Follow-up appointments typically last 20-25 minutes and primarily consist of hands-on osteopathic manipulation.

At Still Point Osteopathic Care, our dedicated team is committed to providing you with compassionate and effective healthcare. With our expertise in Osteopathic Medicine, we strive to address the root causes of your health concerns and help you achieve optimal well-being.

Does OMM hurt?

How does OMM differ from chiropractic care?

Many people have aches and pains in their muscles and joints, and there are lots of ways to help people feel better - like through OMM or chiropractic care. While both can help, they work in different ways.

Chiropractors focus on fixing how the bones in your spine line up. They think that if your spine is off, it might cause problems.OMM is a bit different. We look at the whole body. It’s not just about bones—it’s also about how well your muscles and tissues move and work together. Instead of just checking if everything is in line, we care about how your body moves as a whole.

The way we treat you is different, too. Chiropractors often use quick pushes to fix things. In OMM, we use lots of different methods based on what part of the body is causing the problem—whether it's a muscle, bone, or ligament.

How Often would I need to come?

The goal at Still Point Osteopathic Care is for our patients to get better so they can get back to doing the things they love. We never sign people up for extensive treatment plans, but instead adapt each visit to what your body needs. Typically after your first appointment, we have you come back in 1-2 weeks to see how things are progressing and keep helping your body heal. From there, you may need to come back in 1-4 weeks with the goal of spacing out your treatments as your body continues to heal. After that, it’s up to you! We have patients come back on a monthly basis for maintenance because OMM helps them feel their best, and we also have patients come in only when their bodies need some help.

Is a DO a physician?

Yes! Doctors of Osteopathy attend four years of medical school, do required rotations, take board-certification exams and attend residency in all medical specialties alongside MDs. DOs bring an added dimension of medical care since they understand the interconnectedness of body, mind and spirit. They are trained to treat the whole person, not just the symptoms. DO medical students also train in the basics of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.

Our physicians are board-certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine & Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. They have extensive training in getting to the root cause of your issue and use mostly hands-on osteopathic manipulation to get the body to function the way it is supposed to.
